dress for success

As I started to have appointments again, I looked forward to getting back to before pandemic ways. But really nothing returns to what it was. Good. Because I am going back further, sartorially anyway. I am going all the way to 1959. Suit wearing Cary Grant is my role model, shown here in North by Northwest. He looks natty in a classic gray suit, white shirt and solid gray tie. He never leaves his suit and tie. They looked good in the corn field, train, hotel, jail. Everywhere. I know Mr Grant would look good in about anything, but the tie is the star. I just bought two ties. It was such a good idea, Nordstom sent me two of one of the ties, so I have three.
Any one want to join me in the floral tie club?
Suits, sports jackets and TIES are in.
Mr Grant made me think, but a recent meeting convinced me. I wore a sports jacket to a meeting Saturday at the job site. My shoes shined. Actual pants. I met my friend Mark with Pacific Office Design. He said, "you didn't have to get so dressed up. I wish the client was here." Thanks Mark. After that I knew I needed some ties.

I985 I worked for Robert Morry, a large Allsteel dealer, I wore a sports jacket and tie everyday. Over time I learned good t shirts and polos, but always a jacket or suit. With the pandemic, dressing is more lax. No suit. No jacket. No pants, no matter. Get comfortable. Get sloppy. Get a tie? I didn't tie my shoes. Flip flops don't have laces. No ties. Get it together, man. The fashion pendulum swung back and clocked me in the head. It felt good. Ties are not for everyone, but at least promise-- To Never Wear Sweats To Work Again, ever. Hear my plea and join me.
Sports jackets are important. Actual pants are important. And for god's sake actual shoes and shine them. And when you are ready, go with a tie. Thanks.
